Finally committed the list rewrite — I’m glad that’s finished. I can’t do open source work during the summer, so I had to get it wrapped up quickly. Tom and Alvaro gave me a lot of help, which was nice of them. That’s the last piece of PG work I had to get finished before heading off for the summer, so I’m glad it’s out of the way.

Random compiler thought
I think it would be cool for gcc to (optionally) emit a warning if an automatic variable is not defined in the most tightly-enclosing scope in C. In other words:

   int c;

   if (...)
       c = ...;
       printf("%d", c);

would emit a warning. I’ll have to remember to take a look at hacking something up in September…

Supersize Me
Went to see this with some friends yesterday. I thought it was interesting, although I’m totally unconvinced that you can blame corporations for America’s weight problem. Fundamentally, it’s a matter of personal responsibility — corporations are only going to sell people what they want to buy. If you’re free to choose what to eat, you’re responsible for the consequences of your dietary choices. The film is still worth seeing, though.

I just found out that the 2nd edition of Code Complete is coming out in a few days. Looks like a lot of new content.
